My family and I had the pleasure of working with Dave on our daughter’s, Laken Loupe, first solo CD project.
Simply stated, working with Dave was an enriching experience. His unyielding drive and professionalism made a positive impact that was truly an asset and a catalyst in our projects success.
He was actively involved in fulfilling the vision and direction of Laken’s project and was a valued contributor to all vocals, instrumentals, song selection, recording, arrangement, design and improvements that were vitally important in ensuring a dynamic outcome.
Dave provided empowering guidance in a cooperative and positive manner, always responded in a timely and professional manner, passionately striving to meet the needs and goals of everyone involved. He was very proactive and his drive to succeed is unparalleled. He was very respectful of everyone’s contribution, taking full advantage of the diverse knowledge of each individual, and encouraged their input. He has a wonderful ability to use the collaborative ideas of each team member to develop a course of action that is most beneficial for the artist/client and ultimately, the success of the project.
Dave, without a doubt, is one of the most dedicated, conscientious persons I have ever worked with. His integrity is demonstrated in every aspect of his life and work. He benchmarks and strives for the best on a daily basis. He never stops learning and he challenges those around him to do the same.
Dave’s word is his bond, and his actions and attitude are a shining example of the core values deemed necessary to foster and ensure success.
There is a choice in Nashville. You can pick a producer who has his own goals and ideas about what your project should be with little regard to want you (the artist) want. Or, you can be lucky enough to find someone who is a genuine team player.
Dave Bechtel is certainly the latter. I’ve recorded two projects with Dave now and the reason I came back the second time is because we had a mutual respect on the first album, a trust that had developed in the way the tracks were approached and handled, and because he will always give you valuable insight into your song’s marketability.
Dave is humble and extremely talented at what he does. He has the ability to really hear the songs come to life in his head off of only a solo acoustic track the same way I did when I wrote them. This took all the pressure off of me to know the songs would retain my original intent which I think is so important to an artist. I know when I hit the studio again for another project down the road I can go in with the peace of mind that my songs will come out sounding incredible.
Dave has been a true blessing in my life and one of the best friends I have in Music City.
One of the most difficult aspects when recording music is finding someone that truly understands your vision and capturing your true sound. Dave does just that! Along with acquiring the best musicians, Dave really takes the time to listen and get everything just right.
It says a lot that not only did I trust Dave with my first album, but I have continued to use him for further work. Dave captures the heart of my songwriting, and my vocals as a singer. His work reveals the raw emotion of my writing, along with the essence of my song.
It is a privilege to say Dave has been a mentor and confidant as I make my way in the music business. Most importantly, I am honored to call Dave a friend.
Working with Dave was nothing less than exceptional! From the very first phone call to the end result, Dave not only provided excellent service ensuring my project was the best it could be, but also made making my first EP fun and exciting. Dave went above and beyond my expectations and I look forward to working with him again!
One of the many things I appreciate about working with Dave, is that he is encouraging and respectful. He seems to know how to pull the heart of the song through by knowing when to get out of the way of the music in a session. He hires people who feel the music together and let the songs come to life. It is a treasure to have experienced it more than once! I am always pleased with the results of our efforts together!

Dave put his whole soul into our project. He listened to my demos and asked a lot of questions and then made an album that was an absolute reflection of my intent. He didn’t look to make the album like any other. He didn’t try to match what was currently hip. He did make sure to have a sound that was marketable – because that was part of our goal. He rode the fine line between unique artistry and radio mass appeal. He brought in the talent that fit our direction. From the musicians – to the recording studio – to the mastering…He guided us along on every step. He was very hands on – even in the mixing of the songs.
I really enjoyed every minute of the creative process and am elated with the final product. Dave is very professional and diligent in his art and has become a friend along the way.
Oh…I almost forget to mention that my first song was released for radio play…. It has been hugely successful. Billboard Country Charts for many, many weeks…Everyone (literally) who hears the album, starts by commenting on how well it is produced!
When I was thinking about coming down to Nashville to record my first CD I called around to a bunch of different studios and producers. I contacted Darkhorse Recording down in Franklin because they looked like they could offer me professional services and had worked with a lot of big wigs in the industry (they have a lot of gold records on their walls!!). They strongly recommended Dave to help me produce my project. I researched Darkhorse and found it to be one of the very best studios in Nashville so,I knew that if they thought Dave was great, I would be in good hands. However, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to afford Dave’s services. I was pleased to find that he was very flexible with rates and hours. I am so happy I was connected with Dave because we were able to create an album that is getting good rotation on all the major radio stations up here in Canada.
My biggest praise for Dave would be his willingness and passion to help. Before, during, and after the process he gave advice and encouragement that was useful for me and my music career. New artists recording for the first time and veterans alike would greatly benefit from Dave’s knowledge, energy and
There were four main things that we took away from our interaction with Dave
- Dave is easy to super work with, and he wants your project to succeed.
- He won’t treat your project like a job. He will own it and take it to it’s highest potential.
- Dave is both a musician and a technician. He understands what works and what doesn’t when it comes to all aspects of a recording project.
- He knows some really great places to eat in Nashville.
I think I was highly uneducated when it came to the whole process of producing my first CD and am lucky I got through it all. There were a lot more decisions and planning that goes into a full length CD than I knew. I was grateful to have someone who had navigated those waters before. Dave really helped me to understand that what he is trying to do is to help artists be able to express what they have not been able to express in that a musical format before. I am amazed that several years after I released my CD what an impact it is still having from people all around the globe. I’ll probably never know how many people have been touched by the music Dave helped me create.
My experience with Dave far exceeded my expectations! The diversity of his talent goes far beyond the role of producer. His creativity in arranging music and vocals as well his incredible, technical knowledge is a rare combination!
I had the pleasure of meeting Dave and his family in 2009. At the time I was looking for someone guide me through the process of recording a couple of songs I had written. You see, I am not your typical singer/songwriter. Let me put it this way, at my age most of us are counting the days until our retirement
checks start arriving. Dave was extremely kind and patient with me as we worked together to put the finishing touches on the two songs I recorded. I can’t thank him enough for his patience, encouragement, and honesty. He is truly a gifted producer/arranger/writer/engineer.
Dave is one of the most creative minds I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. It’s always refreshing and a challenge; he has a knack for helping you think just enough out of the box to be surprising, but close enough to it to make it commercial and desirable.

I have worked in Nashville for 25+years with producers from different genres and I appreciate the combination of strong work-ethic mixed with a great laidback feel that Dave brings to the table. The studio environment he nurtures gives the entire musical group a chance to display his or her artistry with what the client demands and brings forth a product that everyone in the room is
That is Mr. Bechtel’s gift and it is a very valuable one. I have worked with many diverse artists from “Lady Antebellum” to rock projects such as “Dave Stewart” to “Reba” and “Ricky Skaggs” and I always look forward to the next project that Mr Bechtel engages in.
Working with Dave will always give you a fantastic sound, always a product thats ahead of the curve, an always fun to make.

Dave has the ability to listen deeply to the artist and simultaneously direct the musicians and background singers toward the vision for the recording he hears in his head. The greatest artists utilize a producer to take them beyond what they believe or imagine they can do.

Working with Dave Bechtel has been a dream as a singer and background singer. There are no limits to the creative things we are able to do. He allows us to think outside the box and sing the unexpected instead of what you think you’re ear is going to hear. And that always keeps things fresh and interesting and keeps the listener intrigued.
A session with Dave is efficient but unhurried. He comes up with cool melodic ideas and parts, too.
